Story

It follows Catherine Ravenscroft, a TV documentary journalist whose work is built on exposing the wrongdoings of long-respected institutions. Gary Oldman was originally rumored to be cast, but was replaced by Kevin Kline.

How on earth did Alfonso Cuarón manage to make such a terrible show?

Right from the start, the two young men on the train in the first scene are annoying, and the mediocre acting continues from there. Even Kevin Kline, who usually can’t do anything wrong in my eyes, seems to be calling him on the phone.

The narration is unnatural and has a strangely inconsistent sound quality

It’s as if the actors have no idea how to play their characters. I assume the narration is lifted straight from the book, but it doesn’t always make sense in the context of the TV show.

Kodi Smit-McPhee is sad as a wet rag

For example, at times the narration is directed at Cate Blanchett’s character about her own experiences, which is just weird. Sacha Baron Cohen seems out of place and sometimes goes into strange hysterics.
