A modern tale of fortune-telling in the world of West Texas oil rigs
See writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV shows on IMDb, ranked by user rating. A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases so that they can drill for oil and gas.

Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, build housing for workers (man camp), set up the excavation machinery, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also, in part, fixers, troubleshooters, and facilitators. It’s formulaic TV, but by a writer who will be remembered in a few decades, much like Norman Lear is now. The difference here seems to be geography.
Inadequacy regarding the mother-daughter-father-family dynamic?
It’s another niche Western show, and it’s brilliantly marketed, coupled with excellent performances by high-quality actors. Problems with accuracy regarding the oil industry? Apparently. Yes.
No matter, it’s a dynamic and fun production to watch
Does that mean none of this happens in real life in the same way? Thornton was made for the role, although I’ve read that it was written just for him at first. Larter is at the top of his game and looks phenomenal. Lots of interesting stuff, except the one oddity is that Demi Moore is listed in all 10 episodes.
If not, then I’ll wonder what the problem is
I’ve seen all 5 that have aired so far, and unless it’s just me, I remember seeing and hearing her only once or twice, in her pool, for a brief moment. Hamm’s character isn’t seen as much either, but he’s well-played and he nails his character, but Moore just isn’t being allowed to add anything to it so far. Maybe it’s written that way and she’ll have a role in later episodes.
